For the third year in a row, the Carl Sandburg College women’s golf team has been awarded a $2,000 mini-grant from the Illinois Women’s Golf Association’s Victory Fund.

The Chargers have used grant funds in previous years to assist in covering the cost of tournaments, equipment, professional instruction and the use of a simulator during the winter.

Sandburg was one of 11 Illinois schools to receive a mini-grant this year. The IWGA Victory Fund annually awards up to $20,000 to the women’s golf teams of colleges and universities in the state to encourage young golfers to stay involved with the sport.

During the fall season, Sandburg set school records for lowest 18- and 36-hole scores. The Chargers also won the Illinois College Fall Invite, the first time it has won an event in program history. Sandburg has its sights set on competing for the first time in the NJCAA Women’s Golf Championship this May in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Founded in 1933, the IWGA is a volunteer organization devoted to advancing golf opportunities for the women and girls of Illinois by conducting state championship tournaments and through fundraising to support charitable contributions to individuals and organizations that embody the spirit of amateur golf.
